How three brothers from Edinburgh rowed across the Pacific in 139 days, raising over £1M for clean water in Madagascar!

The Cause: They happen because of a tiny change in a child’s DNA—specifically in the GRIN, GRIA, GRIK or GRID genes.
The Effect: These genes are vital for brain communication. When they don’t work correctly, it can lead to seizures, developmental delays, movement problems, and autism.
The Reality: There is currently no cure, but GRI-UK is here to support families, raise awareness, and fund research.
While every child is different, many individuals with a GRI disorder face similar daily challenges:
These conditions start in infancy or early childhood. Because they are so rare, many families struggle to get a diagnosis and find the right support.

Breaking the Silence on Domestic Abuse
Join us for an informative morning focused on raising awareness of domestic abuse, its impact on individuals, families and communities, and how we can respond safely and compassionately.
Hosted by The Safe Listening Place Team at Greenbank Church, the event will bring together professionals and those with lived experience to share their knowledge, experiences and insights. The programme will include talks, a Q&A session, and refreshments, providing time for informal conversation and further discussion.
We will be joined by speakers from Edinburgh Women’s Aid, Scottish Violence Reduction Unit, domestic abuse survivors and other agencies committed to ending domestic abuse and supporting survivors. Together, we can help break the silence, increase understanding, and create safer communities for everyone.

On the evening of Sunday 20th September 2026, James Naughtie – radio presenter, journalist and Morningside resident – will be speaking about the political scene in the US – a subject on which he’s an expert, often appearing on the BBC as a commentator.
Admission is free, but we encourage you to reserve a ticket through TicketSource to help us estimate numbers – and, just as importantly, how much home baking we’ll need! You’re also very welcome to come along on the night.
Hosted by Greenbank Parish Church together with Morningside and Fairmilehead Parish Churches, we are delighted to present An Evening with James Naughtie: Insights into American Politics.
A Morningside resident, James Naughtie is one of Britain’s best-known broadcasters and a Special Correspondent for BBC News. He presented the Today programme on BBC Radio 4 for 21 years and covered every US presidential election from 1988 to 2012. Throughout his distinguished career, he has reported from around the world, written and presented numerous documentaries, and authored several books on politics, including On the Road, an account of his travels and reporting in the United States. He is also the author of three acclaimed espionage novels, the latest being The Spy Across the Water.
Join us as James draws on decades of reporting from the United States to share his insights into American politics, explain the forces shaping public life today and take questions from the audience.
The evening will conclude with refreshments and an opportunity to continue the conversation informally.
Everyone, young and old, is welcome to stay for a BBQ after the 10.30am Sunday morning service on Sunday 9th August. Please let the church office know if you plan to attend or use the QR code to register.
After the 10.30am service on Sunday 23rd August we shall walk with Rev Ian Gilmour back to his home parish, to celebrate his ministry at Greenbank and to wish him all the best. Charitable donations are invited for Children’s Literature for Children, with whom Greenbank has a long-standing connection, to support the provision of books for school libraries in Kenya. Join us at 2pm on Sunday 26th July for an afternoon service led by Rev Ian Gilmour with organ music, familiar hymns and an opportunity to share Communion. This short service is for everyone, it will be Dementia Friendly. There will be time to chat over a cup of tea or coffee with home baking and live piano music in the Main Hall afterwards.
